By now, most of us have left our New Year’s resolutions by the wayside – gone the way of our dusty yoga mat and latest calorie counter app.  For me, New Year’s resolutions represent the goals we have for our best self. They are the priorities we set at year’s end when our mind is clear and the new year is a blank slate, and oftentimes January gets off to a running start and before you know it life’s commitments and overall busy-ness take over. Subsequently many of the promises we set in January have likely been forgotten by March.

Now more than ever, self-care and wellness is important. Being mindful and present can be more important than being slim waisted or fluent in seven languages. Here to remind us of that is this our NaturallyCurly Book Club pick:

Present Over Perfect – Leaving Behind Frantic for a Simpler, More Soulful Way of Living

The NaturallyCurly staff voted on this month’s Book Club pick and out of 5 books this was the winner, so it would seem many of us have mindfulness on the brain.  If you feel like your life is moving a mile a minute, and you constantly feel tired and mentally fatigued, we encourage you to pick up this book and read with us. In the author Shauna Niequist’s own words:

“Present Over Perfect is an invitation to this journey that has changed my life. I’ll walk this path with you, a path away from frantic pushing and proving, and toward your essential self, the one you were created to be before you began proving and earning for you worth.”

NaturallyCurly Editor Devri Velazquez nominated this book because “in the age of information overload, I have been craving to get re-focused on the things that actually matter, not all of the mundane details of day to day living.”
